Portrait Unit Drawing Assignments:

SKETCHBOOK ASSIGNMENTS DUE!!
Students are required to practice drawing for at least a half hour per assignment. One assignment will be given per week and are worth 10 points each. At the end of the trimester your entire sketchbook will be collected and graded as a full project grade. To become better at drawing you must practice! Be imaginative. Think outside the box. You can choose to create MORE drawings for extra credit and always go ahead of assigned dates! Be sure to use detail, color and give it your all!

1. Create a "before" portrait of yourself using provided image
2. Complete at least one "puzzle" - Hows shapes come together
3. Value study representing one value scale in black and gray and one in color
4. Sphere - One in black and gray and one in color
5. EXTRA - value packet extra handouts
Writing Assignments and Topics:
Students are asked to write throughout the semester and advance their skills of writing (what does a well written response look like?) as we have discussions on art in education and society through the semester.
1. Annotate your drawings and blueprints and describe your creative process.
2. “What does art look like to you and what are your goals in visual arts?”
3. What is the significance of having art development in a Stem school and should educational programs support the arts in future?
4. Compare and contrast the artwork of Acrimboldo and modern day artist Clause Enrque and make connections from the past to the present and how the past influences the present.
5. Describe what a portrait is. Discuss, compare and contrast at least two artists we have reviewed and describe how a portrait can relate to a scientific professional field.
